HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw0xxx with Ryzen 5 (product number 3PX72LA#ABM)

AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx

System Board 84E7 99.19

BIOS F.16

I have found that when the system is running on batteries, the CPU (all 4 cores) are capped at 400Mhz.

I simply need to know where is the cap defined, so I can remove it or adjust it. System is nearly unusable at 400Mhz.

I believe this is a show stopper because a misinformed customer wil believe notebook is damaged.

I will open a call to HP Support but since is Sunday 12/23.... perhaps the forums will provide a faster answer.

Please advice.

Screen capture from CPU-Z shows clock multiplier at 4. So 400Mhz top speed on all cores while unplugged.

Multipler at full when in AC.

@ErickP,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I reviewed your post and understand that when the computer is running on battery power the CPU is capped at 400MHz.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you perform a system test on the computer following the steps in the below article.

Let me know how it goes. Awaiting your reply!
