@Robben_,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

According to various reliable sources (here and here, for example), your HP Pavilion 15-eg0000 can be fitted with up to 64GB (2x32GB) of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM sticks.

I doubt you'll see any performance difference whatsoever between 2x16GB and 2x32GB RAM sticks, so if you want to upgrade your RAM, I wouldn't go beyond 2x16GB RAM.

Thanks NonSequitur777,
i have tried with 2x 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz SODIMM RAM 2 X Samsung M471A2K43DB1-CWE and it didn't work.once both mounted and it was working with just 1 on and also with 2x16GB SODIMM DDR4 3200 mhz  Crucial CT16G4SFRA32A C8FB  (these ones didn't work if single or double mounted - the fan coil didn't work at all with these modules) and i don't undestand why. Any additional check or action to do before mounting them?

@Robben_,

Thanks for the update -what you’re seeing is a compatibility issue, and it happens with some Pavilion 15-eg0000 laptops even though, on paper, the RAM meets the DDR4-3200 SODIMM spec.

Thanks for clarifying.

  • The Pavilion 15-eg0000 series can run 2×16 GB (32 GB total) -even 2×32 GB (64GB total), but it is very finnicky about the exact RAM modules.

  • Not all DDR4-3200 SODIMMs are fully compatible, even from big brands like Samsung or Crucial, because the HP BIOS is strict about the SPD profile it will accept.

For example:

  • Goodram 2x16GB GR3200S464L22/16G is confirmed to work (see UserBenchmark run), likely because it uses a clean JEDEC-standard profile.

Hi,
as suggested, i have upgraded to the latest available BIOS version Insyde F.49, 14/05/2025 and I have monuted also with Goodram 2x16GB GR3200S464L22/16G  but the notebook doesn't work: both with single and double banks on, i use to press down power on/off, key keyboard lights up but the internal fan doesn't turn.
Is there any keys combinations to press down or action to do?

Kind regards

Troubleshooting steps:

  1. Clear residual power

    • Remove AC adapter.

    • Hold the power button 30–60 seconds (discharges capacitors).

    • Reinstall one stick of RAM only → test boot.

  2. Try both slots with a single module

    • Stick A in slot 1 → boot.

    • Stick A in slot 2 → boot.

    • Stick B in slot 1 → boot.

    • Stick B in slot 2 → boot.
    • If none work → either kit incompatible or both modules bad.

  3. BIOS recovery / reset

    • Press Windows key + B (or Windows key + V) while holding the power button for 2–3 sec → release power but keep holding keys until you hear beeps or see BIOS recovery screen.

    • This forces a BIOS recovery attempt if the firmware is stuck on a bad RAM config.

  4. Fallback test

    • Reinstall the original HP-certified 16 GB kit. If it boots fine, the issue is strictly compatibility.

Reality check:

Unfortunately, Pavilion BIOSes are notoriously picky. Even though another Pavilion 15-eg0000 accepted the Goodram kit (UserBenchmark run), HP may have used a slightly different board revision, RAM vendor whitelist, or SPD handling code in your OP’s exact SKU (486K2EA). That’s why sometimes the exact same RAM works for one user but fails for another.

Next step recommendation:

  • If recovery fails, advise returning the Goodram kit and trying a brand that other Pavilion users have repeatedly confirmed, e.g.:

    • Kingston 2×16 KCP432SS8/16 single-rank (1R) SODIMM.

    • Kingston 2×16 GB DDR4-3200 CL22 (KVR32S22S8/16).

Those two kits have high success rates in Pavilion notebooks.

Summary:

Even though the Pavilion 15-eg0000 series theoretically supports up to 64 GB, some units fail with 2×16 GB (or larger) while working fine with 2×8 GB.

The reasons are mostly technical:

  • Memory density: Many 16 GB sticks are dual-rank/high-density. HP BIOS is more tolerant of single-rank 8 GB sticks.

  • Strict SPD profile checks: HP firmware will only accept very clean JEDEC profiles. Some 16 GB modules have extra SPD/XMP entries that cause training to fail.

  • CPU IMC (integrated memory controller): While Intel 11th-gen supports 64 GB on paper, some Pavilion boards or IMC bins struggle with certain 16 GB dual-rank kits.

  • Board/Bios revision differences: Two laptops of the same series may behave differently depending on the exact motherboard revision and BIOS build.

That’s why you’ll see reports of 2×16 GB working in one Pavilion but not another. If your system won’t boot after trying the recommended Goodram kit, the safest option is to stick with 2×8 GB (16 GB total) or keep trying another 2x16GB kit also known to work in multiple Pavilion models, such as the aforementioned Kingston KCP432SS8/16 single-rank (1R) or Kingston KVR32S22S8/16.

Hi, with Goodram, here's the stable results:

SLOT ASLOT BFANPOWER ON
memory card 1-okyes
-memory card 1okno
memory card 2-okyes
-memory card 2okno
memory card 1memory card 2okno
memory card 2 memory card 1okno

So it seems once any memory card is in slot B alone or with the other module in slot A the notebook doesn't start (even if i was a couple of times able to restart it with just a single module in slot B but never with both memory cards in).

i am really upset. It's the third type of memory card i am using (Samsung, Corsair and now Goodram) amd i would like to not continue those trials.

My mother board is DA0G7HMBB8GO REV:G. Is there a way to check with HP MB data sheet if upgradable and with which ram modules or a scentific way to address it and stop the attempts?

Kind regards

@Robben_,

Very frustrating indeed, I'm sorry.  In your initial post, you said: "RAM upgrade from original 16GB", which I interpreted as you started with 2x8GB of RAM sticks, correct?

So, when you reinstall the 2x8GB RAM sticks, your laptop starts up without any issues?

What happens if you install one 16GB RAM stick in slot A, and one 8GB RAM stick in slot B?

What is the exact part number for the 8GB RAM sticks?

Kind Regards,

Yes you interpreted well (2x8GB)

And Eureka! With 1 Goodram 16GB stick and 1 8GB original stick (NT8GA64D88CX3S-JR MM215260HE DNT1220481 0078927C  8GB 1Rx8 pC4-3200AA-SA2-11 2122). it worked and Windows reported regularly  24GB,

I have also tried inverting the slots and everything worked fine.

So the good news that my laptop is definitely not limited to max 16GB RAM.

So I also repeated with 2x16GB Goodram, discargining the capacitors before, but nothing new. i don't know which more action to do with this configuration.

Once i have mounted back 2 x8GB  i got CMOS blue screen and i have restarted and it worked properly back.

by the way, Windows + B and Windows + V (pressing them together with Power button for 2-3 seconds and then till 60 seconds) seem they don't work on my laptop.

Which action can i perform more  to get 32GB working properly or choosing finally the right sticks?

Kind regards

RB

@Robben_,

OK, the way I interpret your issue is this: your laptop has an issue with dual-rank (2Rx8) RAM.

The purchase example I posted earlier: Kingston 2×16 KCP432SS8/16 single-rank (1R) and: [EDIT:] Corsair CMSX32GX4M2A3200C22 or G.SKILL Ripjaws Series F4-3200C22D-32GRS SODIMM RAM, happens to be single-rank, which may very well be the proverbial magic bullet to allow your laptop to be fitted with 2x16GB RAM.

Worth one last try, in my opinion!
