Hi,

My HP Pavilion laptop, HP Pavilion - 14-ce3520na, battery became week. I bought a genium HP battery from 3rd party, same specifications as the original one, HT03XL. it did charge 100% when installed and charged first time. No warning messages when turned the laptop on. Then when it was 30% or so, i did plug in the laptop. however, battery will not charge. I did try another charger. I did opon  the bottom cover again. Took the battery out. Installed the old one, it wil work fine. Then i did the following steps for the new battery.

  • Power off laptop

  • Unplug charger

  • Remove the new battery

  • Hold the power button 30 seconds (discharges motherboard/EC)

  • Leave battery out for 5 minutes

  • Reinsert the new battery

  • Plug in charger before turning it on

  • Boot and check if charging resumes

Still same issue. Battery wil not charge or even the AC adapter light will not lit when plugged in. Please can someone help. Please note that earlier i did buy replacmentg battery from duracell. Issue was the same. i thought since it is not OEM, may be this is the issue.

However, still same issue when i install a HP battery.

Original Battery HP Part No. L11421-423

Replacement Battery HP part No. 920046-421

Hi @iqtedahmad12638,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion 14-ce3520na is not charging a replacement HT03XL battery even though the original one charges normally. Let’s go through a few steps to narrow this down.

Confirm the new battery communicates with the system
When the new battery is installed, check if Windows shows “No battery detected” or just “Plugged in, not charging.”
If the battery is detected but not charging, the issue is usually compatibility or the battery’s protection circuit.

Check for the charging LED behavior
With the new battery installed, plug in the charger and look at the DC-in LED.
If the LED does not light at all, the motherboard is not enabling charging for that battery.

Inspect the battery connector on the motherboard
Make sure the battery cable is seated perfectly flat and fully inserted.
Even a slight misalignment can prevent the charge controller from detecting the pack.

Update BIOS and EC firmware
Install the latest BIOS for your Pavilion 14-ce3520na from HP’s support page.
BIOS updates can refresh battery communication and charging logic.

Check battery type and chip compatibility
The Pavilion 14-ce series requires HT03XL batteries with a specific smart chip (BQ series).
Many third-party or even “HP-branded” replacements from resellers use non-HP control chips.
These will power the laptop, but the charging circuit will refuse to charge them.

Run the laptop without the battery
Remove the new battery and run the laptop on AC only for 5–10 minutes.
Shutdown → install the new battery → plug in AC again.
This sometimes resets the protection circuit, but if it still won’t charge, the pack is likely not authenticated by the charger IC.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for replying.

With the new battery installed, plug in the charger the LED does not light at all.

when the new battery installed, i can not power on the laptop as LED light does not lit al all.

I did remove the new battery and run the laptop on AC only for 5–10 minutes.
Shutdown → install the new battery → plug in AC again. It did not make any difference.

Can you suggest some thing else?

Thanks.

Hi @iqtedahmad12638,

Thank you for the additional details, this helps narrow down the issue clearly.

Since the original battery charges and powers the laptop normally, but the replacement HT03XL batteries do not charge and even prevent the charging LED from turning on, this points to a battery authentication or communication problem. The Pavilion 14-ce series is very strict with battery firmware, and incompatible control chips inside third-party batteries often cause the system to block charging completely.

Let’s go through a few more checks to confirm this:

Reseat the battery connector
– Remove the bottom cover, disconnect the new battery, and reconnect it firmly.
– Even a slight misalignment can prevent the charge controller from detecting the battery.

Check if the battery is being detected at all
– With the new battery installed, plug in the charger and see if the DC-in LED turns on.
– If the LED stays off, the system is rejecting the battery at hardware level.

Perform a full embedded controller reset
– Remove AC power and remove the new battery.
– Hold the power button for 1 minute, wait another 10–15 minutes, then reinstall the battery and plug in AC.
– This resets the protection and charging logic, in case the battery was locked during first use.

Inspect the battery label and authentication markings
– HP-approved HT03XL packs include HP hologram strips, QR codes, and matching spare-part numbers.
– Missing or mismatched labels usually indicate non-HP control chips, which the system may refuse to charge.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I did this,  "Hold the power button for 1 minute, wait another 10–15 minutes, then reinstall the battery and plug in AC". No change. still same issue ....led light does n to lit with the battery inserted and AC power connected.

There is no hologram sticker on the battery or QR code. There are not there on the original battery which came with the laptop.  I have attached orginal and replacement battery photos.Original BatteryOriginal BatteryRepalcementRepalcement
