I recently received a Dell WD19 USB-C docking station through my workplace and am trying to simplify swapping my HP with my work computer. When I connect it to my HP Pavilion 15-cs0064st, it picks up the Ethernet connection, but does not use the power or HDMI display from the dock. The connector has a light on it, but does not turn on when connected to the laptop
Without going too deep, I also have an HP EliteBook (model HSN-1113C-4) and the dock works perfectly - power, display, keyboard, mouse, etc. The connector does light up when connecting to the EliteBook.
I have tried to do some research, but am struggling with a definitive answer - it initially looks like they simply may not be compatible due to differences in the type/power of the USB-C ports on the different models.
I will be going through and updating all the drivers (except maybe the BIOS for now - BIOS updates ALWAYS make me nervous for some reason) and then trying again. Any help, suggestions, or confirmations would be QUITE welcome!
Well, I may have, after some additional searching, answered my own question.
Looking at the specs for the Elitebook 840 G5, the USB-C includes "Thunderbolt" but the Pavilion 15 indicates data transfer only. Putting that together with some other reading makes it sound like I would not be able to use any USB-C docking station with my Pavilion, much less the Dell docking station from my workplace.
I'd love to hear confirmation of my interpretation, despite how disappointing the answer may be.
