Hi everyone, I'm usually used to solving by myself, but this time I ask for help.
I can't find a page, a reference, NOTHING, on this old (working) laptop that I wanted to update and give away.
Above all I was interested in the bios (and maybe also the drivers), at the moment there is a working version of XP (but not updated for years)
The precise Model is HP PAVILION dv5135eu, EZ149EA # ABZ
The current Bios is F.52
It appears to be a "ghost" laptop ...
Thanks to everyone, Mario

Hi, Mario:
HP retires support for PC's that have reached 10 years of age.
That is why you can't find any information on your PC.
F.54 was the last BIOS update released for your PC.
Here are the links to the info and exe files to this update...
info:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35204.html
exe:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35204.exe
It is a lot of work for me to hunt down the drivers on the FTP site, so if you can let me know which drivers you specifically need for missing devices, I will see what I can dig up.
You can no longer Update Windows XP or Vista. Microsoft has cut off support for Windows update.
Windows Update SHA-1 based endpoints discontinued for older Windows devices (microsoft.com)
The only thing you can do would be to manually run the updates that are still available on the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Paul, in the meantime I have already updated the BIOS, thanks to the links you sent me.
Now, I have to decide what to do:
- Windows XP I would say that it is impossible (zero security)
- Windows Vista just to hear it mentioned I feel bad
- Windows 7 (which still has dying support) may have too important system requirements. (and maybe it is not even compatible with this laptop)
Perhaps installing a lightweight Linux might be your best bet. However, in the meantime you have given me a big hand, having the bios updated to the latest version available is important.
Thanks again a greeting, Mario

Anytime, Mario.
Glad to have been of assistance.
You can run the W7 upgrade advisor and see if that model can run W7.

Since you are giving the notebook away, unless you have a lot of W7 licenses you don't care about giving up, I agree that installing Ubuntu on there would probably work, and it is free.
