Hi.

i am here regarding an issue im facing with my old laptop. when i try to do light gaming or start any software that needs DX11 it doesnt work for example valorant  i get the error aticfx64.dll (c0000005) i reinstalled my gpu drivers for both the amd hd 7400m and intel hd 3000 it doesnt work. chatgpt says its a problem when the laptop tries to switch the gpus it crashes, i tried using the amd catylst sofware doesnt work i went to the bios and made it fixed mode instead of dynamic with the switchable gpu didnt work. i forced maximum power in the amd app doesnt work. even when the amd hd 7400m supports dx11.1 doesnt work and it doesnt show up in the system settings. only the intel 3000 unless i go to device manager then the 7400m pops up. so i tried finding OEM drivers in the hp support but theres none.

dxdiag only shows the intel hd 3000 not the dedicated gpu. in the system section dx12 in the display section dx11.1 (dxdiag)

if you guys need any more information please say thanks!

Hi:

What operating system are you running on your notebook?

If it is W10, no HP W10 custom drivers exist for the Intel/AMD switchable graphics and the problem would not be solvable.

You can only use the original HP W7 or W8 drivers that HP supplied for your notebook, which means the only way the graphics will work properly is if your notebook is running W7 or W8.  Maybe it will work on W8.1 too but i can't say for sure.

Using newer Intel and/or AMD graphics drivers will not work.

im using the latest win 10 64bit build.

so its just unsolvable? i heard maybe there is unoffical drivers someone can use but im not sure if u would recommend using unoffical drivers or if it even exists. but either way thanks!

You're very welcome.

I don't know of anyone that has gotten the switchable graphics to work on W10.

If you can't reinstall W7 64 bit and use the Intel/AMD switchable graphics driver that works the switchable graphics, you may as well leave things as they are, or perhaps you can try the HP W8 64 bit graphics driver on W10.

This is the W7 AMD switchable graphics driver:

This is the W8 AMD graphics driver:

i installed the win 8 driver but i got error code 31 for my amd gpu and error 43 for the intel gpu when i opened device manager. is it because i ran the installer in compatibility mode for win 8?

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know.

As I wrote in my first reply, I believe the problem cannot be solved, so you may as well use whatever drivers you were using on W10 when you posted your question.
