  2. Select Settings.
  3. Go to Update & Security.
  4. Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

Using HP Support Assistant:

Hardware Reset

Performing a hardware reset can sometimes help resolve issues:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (including external mouse) and unplug the AC adapter.
  3. Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter (but not the external devices) and turn on the computer.

Check BIOS Settings

Ensure the touchpad is enabled in BIOS:

  1. Restart the computer and press F10 (or the key specified on your screen) to enter BIOS.
  2. Navigate to System Configuration or Device Options.
  3. Ensure the touchpad is enabled.

Hi @TJ8799

It’s definitely unusual for the touchpad to stop working on two laptops simultaneously, especially if they’re the same model series.

Let’s break this down and explore possible causes and solutions:

Possible Causes

Hardware Failure:

  • It’s possible that the touchpad hardware or the motherboard components related to the touchpad have failed. However, simultaneous failure on two laptops is rare unless there’s a shared external factor (e.g., power surge, environmental damage).

Driver or Firmware Issue:

  • A corrupted or outdated driver could cause the touchpad to stop functioning. If the same driver or firmware update was applied to both laptops, it might explain the issue.

BIOS or System Settings:

  • While you mentioned that the BIOS doesn’t have touchpad settings, it’s worth ensuring that the BIOS is updated to the latest version for both laptops.

Operating System Conflict:

  • If the issue persists even when trying to install Windows on a formatted hard drive, it could point to a deeper hardware or firmware issue rather than just a software conflict.

Steps to Troubleshoot

Here’s what you can try next:

External Mouse for Navigation:

  • If you haven’t already, connect an external USB mouse to navigate through the troubleshooting steps.

Reset BIOS to Default:

  • Even if there are no touchpad-specific settings, resetting the BIOS to its default configuration might help:
    • Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
    • Look for an option to reset to default settings (often under the Exit menu).
    • Save changes and restart.

Update BIOS:

  • Visit the HP Support page for your laptop models and check for BIOS updates. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the touchpad works there:
    • Restart the laptop and press F8 repeatedly during startup.
    • Select Safe Mode with Networking.
    • If the touchpad works in Safe Mode, it’s likely a driver or software conflict.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Use the built-in HP Diagnostics tool to test the touchpad hardware:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Press the power button and immediately press Esc repeatedly.
    • Select System Diagnostics and run the Touchpad Test.

Reinstall Windows:

  • If you suspect a software issue, a clean installation of Windows might help. Use the recovery media you created to reinstall the operating system.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the touchpad and surrounding area for any visible damage. If the laptops were exposed to moisture or physical impact, it could explain the failure.

Let me know how it goes.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

it seems hard to find a good bezel for this laptop but did see one in good condition from a HP Pavilion dv87-3137nr will that work on this laptop   part number is 519041

Thank you

@TJ8799, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The part number for the bezel you're looking for is 480442-001. The bezel from the HP Pavilion dv87-3137nr (part number 519041) might not be compatible, so it's best to go with the correct part number for your laptop

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
