Product: HP Pavilion dv7-6b55er (A6J18EA)

Hello! I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6b55er (A6J18EA) with an i7-2670Q CPU. Is it possible to upgrade it to the 3rd generation, for example to the i7-3630QM? Has anyone tried to do this?

Hi:

 

Your notebook will not support an Intel 3rd generation core processor.

 

Chapter 1, page 2 of the service manual has the list of supported Intel processors.

Only the dv7-7xxx model series supported the Intel 3rd generation core processors.

I saw that there is no 3rd generation in the service manual. But maybe someone tried to do this. The chipset and socket allow you to install 3rd generation, but the BIOS may not allow it.

Here's the Intel list of supported processors for the Intel HM65 Express chipset your notebook has:

 

Mobile Intel® HM65 Express Chipset

 

I doubt any of the 3rd generation processors listed above would work.

 

As you indicated, most likely the BIOS will not support them.
