Hello,

I have an HP Pavilion g6-2277et laptop.

Originally it came with an Intel Core i5-3210M. I tried upgrading the CPU to Intel Core i7-3630QM. After installing it, the laptop does not boot and the Caps Lock LED blinks 3 times repeatedly.

I then reinstalled the original CPU, but now the laptop shows 1 Caps Lock blink and still does not boot. I have already tried:

Removing battery and AC adapter

CMOS reset (power button held for 60 seconds)

Testing with single RAM module

Reseating CPU and RAM

My questions are:

Is the i7-3630QM officially unsupported for Pavilion g6-2277et due to BIOS, TDP (45W), or VRM limitations?

Can installing an unsupported CPU corrupt BIOS or EC firmware, causing the original CPU to no longer boot?

Is BIOS recovery or reprogramming required in this situation?

What is the highest officially supported CPU for this model?

Any guidance from HP staff or experienced users would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi:

Your PC only supports the 35W 3rd gen quad core:

I couldn’t turn on the computer with my old processor. How can I fix this?

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that.

You may have wrecked the motherboard by installing the i7-3630QM.

Try doing a forced reset of the notebook.
