Common problems for Battery

Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook with built in (non removable) battery. Product number Z9F60EA.

Laptop is about 2 years old and has been working fine until the last week. Now the battery will not charge when the power cable is plugged in and turned on. However, it does charge when the laptop is turned off or the screen is closed so is in hibernate mood.

Therefore there is nothing wrong with the AC adapter. It is something in the laptop.

I sometimes get a message saying the fan is not working when I first turn on. Could this be the cause of the problem?  Is it easy to change the fan in these machines yourself at home?

The problem has been fixed. I took the laptop into an independent repair shop yesterday and they noticed the AC power port within the laptop was broken, a little rubber inner tube was missing. Must have come out when we were unplugging the laptop charging cable at home sometime last week.

I spent hour updating BIOS and Chip drivers and Windows and re-calibrating the battery and running diagnostic checks before taking the laptop into repair shop.

In no literature or on the HP forum or HP Assist did it ever say check the power port within the laptop where you plug the charge into and see if it looks like this image "X".

Oh well.
