HP Pavilion Noteboo 15-ab131nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
My windows update centre is giving me notice that it can't install an update (to Windows 10 version 1703). When I procede by clicking on solve this problem the notice pops up that some apps need to be deleted because they're not compatible with the update "HP Pavilion Notebook BIOS needs to be upgraded before you can upgrade to Windows 10". The only option in this screen is to undo the installation. I figured this was not the best option so I canceled the update and started looking for how to upgrade my BIOS. The current version is AMI F.16. When looking on the HP support page for software and driver downloads (link provided below), the BIOS update I find is F.45 Rev.A. I am not sure if this is an update for my BIOS or another one since F.16 is not included in the list of previous versions. Can you help me finding the right update for my BIOS? https://support.hp.com/ca-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-ab100-notebook-pc-series/8499302/mod...

Your computer probably was factory-shipped with 'F.16'.

It must have been a later assembly, since the first "wave" of hardware has an update to the 'F.13' level.

Lots of BIOS updates are available.

Obviously, HP is "actively" supporting your computer.  Kudos to them!

Thank you for you answer.

Yes I did see those updates, however, I wasn't sure wheter the Rev.A part was meaning that it's about another series of BIOS or if it was still the same. But following your answer the added Rev.A does not mean it's a significant different series?

I am not an HP employee, and cannot speak on behalf of HP.

I have no specific knowledge about what naming-conventions that HP uses for their updates.

HP's web-site does not provide any information suggesting that there is more than one "series" for you to worry about.

I can only speculate that the first release of a new level of the BIOS is labelled 'A', and that if there is a "minor" or "trivial" update to, say, less than 1% of the code, that it would be labelled as 'B'.
