Hello,

I just recently bought this computer and wanted to know if you are able to upgrade the hard drive to a SSD. Mine came with the a 1 TB 5400 RPM HDD but i wanted to put in a new SSD to increase performance.

My question is can i leave the 1 TB HDD and install an M2 SSD? and if so what are the limits or issues.

Is it better to just replace the HDD and install a 2.5 SSD?

Can this model run both a 2.5 and an M2 SSD simutaneously?

The manual doesn't fully say if it can or not... or if it does, i have a hard time finding this info.

And what are some compatiable drives that will work?

I was thinking of getting a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD...will this work?

Thank you,

You may already have this but here's the Service Manual:

The problem for upgrading is that the M.2 slot is on the backside of the motherboard. Looks like this after you break it down and remove motherboard and flip it over.

If you still want to do the upgrade it is possible to install either a SATA M.2 2280 disk or a PCIe/NVME. GIve a choice you want a PCIe/NVME since they are the fastest thing out there. Up to 5 times as fast as a SATA M.2.

Samsung 970 Evo M.2 seems to be working well on 8th generation machines such as yours.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

I have the exact same laptop and it appears in the manual you referenced that only laptops with model 14-cc0xx can use the PCIe NVMe hard drives. Do you know if that is accurate?

Thanks!

Its actually more confusing than that. It says PCIe/NVME only for  model numbers 15m-bp1xx through 15-bp1xx: which are not even covered by this Manual.
