I bought a 1tb SSD Wd blue for my laptop, it wasn't recognized then I noticed the cable to connect only had 10 pins while the plug in on the motherboard had 12? Now I'm trying to order a spare hdd cable with part number L18218-001 as referenced in the manual, I'm trying to find one on AliExpress (my only site that I can order from), and there's a lot of numbers and the actual cable has place for 12 pins but only has 11, it doesn't have the 5th one I think, will that cable still work? Does this laptop work with SSDs on the 2.5 inch tray?

Here is the link to the aliexpress site:

Picture of the specific cable by HP part Number on US eBay auction looks identical to yours. Yes a SATA SSD should work as well as a SATA mechanical drive. Make sure you are getting the cable down into the header straight and square and deep enough to connect is all I can suggest
