When I open the Window Camera App it only shows a black screen. Then will eventually error out.

Then I get the below error when attempting to take a video or snap a picture.

I've trying installing YouCam like some of the forums have suggested, but it did not help. I also attempted to uninstall/reinstall HP Truevision HD Camera, but now I can't get it to reinstall.

*It was greyed out in devmgmt.msc before I started any of the troubleshooting.* Now I can't get it to populate again by prompting to scan for hardware changes. I've also looked in the view tab and made sure that it wasn't there.

 

I've done Windows Updates, the recommended and all of the others that were available, as well all of the HP updates from the HP Support Assistant.

 

Does anyone have the HP Truevision HD Camera driver for this model Pavilion x360, or can they provide a download link to one that isn't filled with malware?

@IT_Rizzle Check the anti-virus program settings & ensure it isn't blocking the camera and the same should resolve the issue, if this doesn't help, try the below steps:

 

here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model, if not: click here & follow the steps) and ensure its turned on,

That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.

 

If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.

To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.

Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)

 

Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.

  1. Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
  2. Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
  3. Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.
