Hi everybody,
So after 5 years my HP Pavillion 17's SR03XL 52Wh battery finally died after more than 600 charge-discharge cycles, after doing a lot of research i was surprised to find out that nobody makes upgraded batteries for these laptops, not even third party companies. At a friend's request i tried the SR04XL 70Wh which is not compatible with the model, the voltage is different but to my surprise it works in the sense that it's recognized and discharges but does not charge for a very weird reason: in HP battery check, the terminal voltage is lower than the design voltage, which is the other way it's supposed to be, so it confuses the BMS and throws an error message, since it always thinks the battery is dead. Does anybody who has experience with batteries knows how to bypass this or at least if there is a higher capacity battery i can use with this laptop!? The laptop is old and out of warranty so it's not worth spending the huge amount of money that HP demands for an original battery, it's over 100$ here and if i were to replace it with an aftermarket battery, i would go for a higher capacity one, since the SR03Xl only lasted 3 - 4 hours at best, when it was brand new...
Best regards

Lithium Ion laptop batteries usually only last between 300-500 cycles.
Yours was past the expected service life.
You will need to replace it with a new Genuine HP part numbered battery.
Generic batteries, such as the one you describe often have the result you experienced because of the difference in BMS programming in the battery's BMS chiip
There is no upgraded battery option for your laptop.
HP has produced and brought to market more than a thousand different models of notebooks and desktop PCs over the years.
It is difficult to help you if we don't know the hardware configuration of the laptop that you own.
Method #1: If the notebook will boot into Windows, you can retrieve your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key.
Method #2: Press the power button and immediately tap the F10 key to invoke the BIOS. In the Main section, you will find the Product number or Product ID. Post that in your next reply in your thread.
Method #3: Press the power button and immediately tap the F2 key.
Method #4: If powering on is not an option, take a look at the bottom of the laptop for the label with the product name and product number. Do not include the serial number of your HP product when you identify as it is not needed. For a desktop look at the rear for the label.
If your laptop has HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI version 10.3.0.0, there is a System Information section that also has the Product ID.
We need that information, along with the installed Operating System information to help you.
Here is a video which explains how to find that information that applies to your specific laptop.

When a Moderator sees the image it will be removed since you posted the serial number.
HP does not post those for privacy reasons.
Your laptop is a HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 17-cd1007na with Product number (SKU) 13F17EA
From the Maintenance & Service guide for your laptop (see chapter 3, page 16, item 18
https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06367545.pdf
Description HP Part Number
Battery (3-cell, 52 Wh) L08855-855
Only use genuine HP batteries that have the HP part number and the HP logo on them.
Non-genuine (generic), ( i.e HT03XL) batteries are known to sometimes not work as expected because of their non standard programming of the internal BMS (battery management system) chip.
If you read through threads in the forum related to problems after battery replacement you will see many members who have used generic batteries complaining that they are not working as expected.
