I'm hoping someone can help me, been working on this for a few days? My laptop only charges when switched off or sleeping. I've done the diagnostic tests and it said the battery is fine. There was a problem with the AC Adapter.
It is a brand new laptop and I'm using the original adapter that came with it. I bought a new charger just to check in case the original was broken, but it is the very same?
What I don't understand is, if it showing up in the diagnostic test as a problem? the error message is saying "It is not recieving data" why does it charge when off or sleeping?
the adapter seems to work then? I thought if it wasn't working then it wouldn't charge at all? I hope I have described the problem enough to understand?
ps. I tried all of the above solutions ie: Uninstalling ACPI and adapter, powering down etc but nothing has worked yet?
I'd be very greatful if someone could guide me on what else to do, as I said it is only a couple of months old and I don't want to have to buy another one.

Thanks for the reply Photray002, I did consider taking it back to be looked at, but unfortunately I have lost the reciept. I didn't think the outlet would entertain me without the receipt? I'll contact the link you gave me, thanks for the help much appreciated.

Hello @wishywashy
Usually when a laptop will not charge during operation but when powered off, the AC adapter is under-powered or something has went south in the power board of the laptop itself.
It uses a 45w adapter, but needs a 65w adapter if it has the Nvidia 940 video card installed also.
Considering its only a few months old, you should contact HP Support asap and do a warranty claim. They will probably need you to send it in to them for repairs.
