HP Pavilion Gaming Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just dismantled my laptop to clean it out as there was a lot of dust inside it and then after reassembling it I get a battery error 'Primary (internal) battery error 601'. The laptop refuses to turn on without a.c. power now and it turns off instantly when you pull a.c. power out while in use. I did a battery check and now it says there is only 19% of it's design capacity left even though it said that yesterday i had about 90% left. It is advising me that i should replace my battery however I wondered if it is possible I have broken something on my motherboard to cause this sudden drop or is it possible for a battery capacity to drop from 90% to 19% in one day. I've done some diagnostics below:

CMD Battery Report:  https://imgur.com/a/m8GDHgN - I've noticed that under installed capacity it says the design capacity is 8269 mWh which incorrect as I've had higher capacities than that in the table below.

It is more likely that it is just coincidental.

It was the battery's time to no longer have enough service life to make it as useful as before you disassembled it.

You did get three years out of the battery.

The tests that you did do say the battery is toast.

It should be replaced.

I was just surprised that it dropped capacity suddenly, I was expecting for it to slowly degrade until it was practically unusable. So the sudden drop made me suspicious as I had just disassembled and reassembled it. All other components seem to be working fine so I'll go ahead and buy a replacement battery. Thanks,

Robert

Sorry to disturb you again but I cannot find a way to order a new battery off HP.  When I search my part number (800010-421) the website says

  • A match to your search criteria could not be found. Please check your entry, or try using the product category search links displayed below.
Please review to ensure all required information has been entered

Does this mean HP doesn't sell the batteries anymore and i have to buy one off eBay?

Unfortunately you never completely identified your notebook with a conmplete product name or product number.

Gaming notebook is a generic description. It is not accurate enough to allow me to find the proper part number.

Take a look on the bottom of the notebook in the tiny print for a ProdID.

Kindly post it here inn your next response in the thread.

The ProdID is the same as the product number.

I can use it to find information on the hardware configuration of your notebook.
