HP Pavillion
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Pavillion laptop. Today, when I plugged the charger in, it started randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. The longer I kept it plugged, the less it disconnected ( if that makes sense ). After further inspection, I found out that once I plug the charger in, it charges the PC for a split second, then some sort of a silent beeping noise comes out from somewhere near the port and the charger disconnects. When the sound stops, it starts charging again and so on. As mentioned before if I just keep the charger plugged the disconnecting happens less and less, but if I move it at least a little bit, it starts from the beginning.

Hi @Tomyte

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion laptop is experiencing an issue with the charging port or the charger itself.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

1. Inspect the Charger and Port

Check the charging cable and adapter for any visible damage, such as frayed wires or bent pins.

Inspect the charging port on your laptop for dust, debris, or damage. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean it gently.

2. Test with a Different Charger

If possible, try using a different compatible HP charger to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem lies with the charger or the laptop.

3. Check the Power Outlet

Plug the charger into a different power outlet to rule out any issues with the electrical supply.

4. Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or power management drivers can cause charging issues. Update them as follows:

Go to the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS and drivers for your laptop model.

Install the updates and restart your laptop.

5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Restart your laptop and press the Esc key repeatedly during startup.

Select System Diagnostics from the menu and run a battery and power adapter test.

6. Check Battery Health

Open the HP Support Assistant app and run a battery health check. If the battery is failing, it may need to be replaced.
