Pavilion dv6500 Laptop

I have a Paillion dv6500 laptop.  I put an old SSD drive into it and was hoping to install a lightweight OS on it and give it some life.  It has 2 GB RAM currently, and I hope to upgrade it to 4 GB, but I know that requires that the BIOS is upgraded.  I am currently on BIOS version F.5A.  I am not sure how current this is, and I believe F.22 is the update that allows for 4 GB to be recognized by the system.  Can anyone tell me if F.5A comes after F.22 or before?  I'm not having any luck finding dates on the BIOS versions.  If F.5A isn't enough, can you point me in the direction of the latest BIOS update?

Thanks in Advance,

- Michael

Hi:

F.5A was the last BIOS update released for your notebook.

If your notebook has the mobile Intel 965 processor, you can upgrade it to 2 x 2 GB right now.

Anything having to do with adding support for 2 x 2 GB of memory was for the older dv6000 models with the mobile intel 945 chipset and those use different BIOS files.

My system has an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250.  Does that mean I am stuck with 2 GB?

Paul, thanks for the quick response.  And thank you for the support you have provided to the HP community.  I've dug through these support pages many times, and your presence is very noticeable.  The user base is lucky to have someone as knoweldgable providing them support.

I think the T5250 is a 965 Mobile processor, no?  I looked at the spec sheet and its a 65 nm lithography and stated to be mobile class....  my apologies for my ignorance.

You're very welcome, and thank you for the compliment.

You can install 2 x 2 GB in your model with that processor.

You could actually install 2 x 4 GB but PC2-6400 memory is very expensive.
