HP Pavillion dv7-7063ea
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

My HP Pavillion dv7-7063ea is running very slow.  My first thought was to increase the RAM.  There is 8gb installed at the moment and I would like to know if I can replace the 2 x 4gb with 2 x 8gb.  Operating system is Windows 7 home 64 bit and processor is Intel Core i7-2670QM.

Any other tips to increase the speed would be helpful

Regards

Alan

Hello Alan,
I have this same laptop (mine is DV7t-6000) that I had custom built for me by HP nearly 10 years ago.
I finally just ordered a new one yesterday!
Mine still runs great, and it always has...however it is lacking some modern features that I am no long willing to be without.
At any rate....about 3-4 years ago, I updated my DV7 with performance 16GB DDR3 SDRAM (2x8GB) and a SATA 512GB Samsung Pro SSD. It was definitely money well spent.
That being said, if it is slow, perhaps you have an issue?!? Before spending money, I'd try a lot of updates (Windows and hardware drivers) AND perform a thorough cleaning out of any excess and unused "stuff" (programs), then run disk clean up and defrag the hard drive.
Good news is that both memory and SSD are now very reasonably priced, so it will not sink your budget to do either or both.

Hi Daniel

Many thanks for the advice.  I'm just cleaning up the drives now and will update the drivers next

Cheers Alan
