Hp Pavillion x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Hp Pavillion x360 Convertible that i bought a 1TB SATA SSD hard drive to upgrade from the 128GB SSD the part i didn't realize when i bought it was that i have an M2 2880 hard drive in it. I want to add the 1 TB SATA as a second hard drive. I realize i need to get the ribbon cable, shield, and rubber gasket to install it. What else do ineed to do to have the computer recognize it as a second hard drive? Also, in the future will i be able to upgrade the 128 M2 SSD to a 1TB or 2TB drive without any issues?

I don't make any money off this so I have no problem where you order the parts. I would not hesitate to buy from the eBay seller but I also use compuparts quite often and they are reliable. And yes if you already have an SSD by all means its a sunk cost and you should put it to work. Of course I knew none of this and spent my uncompensated time trying to fill the need as presented and I think you got the solution here and should mark it as such and I wish you good luck with your laptop.

The M.2 can be upgraded and yes you can probably install a hard drive in addition to the SSD. However, we need the exact model number to be able to locate exactly the parts you need and the correct Manual.

HP Parts Store does not stock these parts:

eBay sellers have stepped in however:

Yes the drive installed in the ruber sleeve can be a 2.5 inch SATA SSD but if you plan to use it as pure storage an SSD is a bit of overkill as a mechanical drive would do fine. Mechanical drives are still quite a bit cheaper even as SSD prices come down.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked up the parts and i do have a copy of the Manual. I'm a little leery of ordering from that eBay listing as it is not a genuine HP cable as far as i can tell. Here is a link to another source that lists a genuine HP cable.

As far as using the SSD as a storage drive, you are correct it is overkill. But i bought it already and cloned it so i think i'll be stuck with it. I don't think they'll take it back once it has been written to. So i might as well put it to good use.
