You are welcome.

I don't have access to any method that is proprietary (for example, known only by HP).

Some merchants post "compatibility" specs with their products.

Years ago, HP provided a Compatibility document - this document was removed by HP and no replacement document has been (to date) published again.

True, the situation is not ideal.

I forgot to say I'd prefer tilt function if possible, but help finding a full list of all compatible pens would be ideal.

Welcome to the HP User Community.

The good news is there is a pen listed for this model.

Not "pens", but at least there is the one > HP Pen

Thanks for the help! Is there any way to find out if other pens are compatible? The box specifically mentioned tilt pen compatibility, but there's more than one HP Pen with tilt. I'd imagine there's even some that were made after the laptop was.

It seems like there has to be an easier way to figure out if a specific stylus works with a specific laptop than to either buy it and see or make a help request, but I've put a lot of time into this and am at a loss.

If I know it works with one tilt pen, do I assume it works with newer models? What about 3rd party pens?

It's just a bummer that it's so complicated. I have to be doing something wrong, I hope. I can't imagine HP wouldn't have an easier way to figure these things out.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help. I've accepted your response as the answer. You're awesome!

Can you tell me exactly what it was that showed that the MPP 2.0 wasn't compatible? I just want to learn how I could have checked on my own.

You are welcome.

What works depends on the product and the search type - some of the data to which we  have access is not available for public view.   Don't read too much into that - what we have is not always better or more complete...

In general,

  • Check your device's Service Manual - this is the "first indicator" whether any stylus is compatible.   This method is not 100% - documentation is not always consistent across models / series / devices.
  • Check for a part number in PartSurfer- open any listing for "Part Number used in".
  • Depending on the product, some merchants provide (at least partial) lists of compatible products.
  • Used to be the HP Virtual Agent could answer this type of question - that method seems to have stopped working a while ago -- I've not checked it recently (a year or more?).

When it comes right down to it - those of us outside of HP do not have access to any definitive method of divining answers for this type of question.  Searches of this type can be time consuming.  Lots of rocks to turn over and look at the underside.
