Yesterday, my new (1 month old) HP ProBook 450 G10 suddenly stopped accepting power via the USB-C charging port. It popped up notification that the Smart Adapter's output was too low. Got same message using the Power Adapter that came with the laptop and when using the HP UBS-C Dock G5 that is compatible with the laptop. I could not find anything on the HP support site for this model. After more searching found same symptoms (not charging via USB-C) for other model laptops & found a solution that worked. It allegedly performs a full reset of the processor(s).
If this happens with your HP ProBook G10, try this:
- Power down the laptop (Shutdown)
- Then continuously press the power switch for at least 30 seconds (I did this for 60 seconds). Then release.
- Then press the power button to boot up. It takes much longer than usual to boot.
- Then plug in the power adapter to the USB-C port.
After that sequence, the USB-C port was working again for charging the battery.
Hope this helps someone else.

This same situation happens my HP ProBook every few weeks (I've lost track). Performing the very long press shutdown resolves it every time. A week or so ago, the ProBook got a USB-C Bios update with no info on what was being changed or why. Since the Bios update, the USB-C charging issue has not recurred. However, I will not be surprised if the Bios update was unrelated and the issue does recur.

I have a user having this same issue with an HP ProBook 450 G10. New laptop and new dock. It will give her Ethernet, keyboard/mouse, display etc. but will not power the laptop. I tested with my machine and it works fine and charges the battery. I'm going to give this a shot but just curious, before you did these steps did you unplug everything from the machine or just leave it plugged into the dock etc? I saw a couple other posts that mention unplugging everything but wasn't sure if that was a needed step? Ugh, so frustrating as I've already spent so much time on her machine downloading every driver known to man related to this!

First of all, I don't think the issue is with the Dock; it is with the laptop. So not surprised the dock works with a different laptop.
With respect to unplugging everything before doing the "press and hold" on the power switch, I don't know if that is "required" as I don't know what is going on internally in the Laptop. However, I always unplug everything from the laptop before doing the long "press and hold". Not a big deal, particularly given the dock is usually the only item plugged in.
I posted some weeks back that a new dock driver had been installed. The new driver has had no effect on the issue. Every few weeks, the HP ProBook stops recognizing power in from the USB-C Dock. The long "press and hold" action resolves it every time. I strongly suspect the long press is fully discharging capacitors that have built up residual / static charge, and the residual charge is just high enough to trick a monitoring component into thinking something is wrong with the USB-C power in.

That is not a fix; it's just a delay. I have 2 laptops HP ProBook 450 G9 with USB-C charger. From time to time charger stops working like yours and it's recognised again after I unplug it and plug it again in USB-C port. The problem is Windows 11 and maybe 10 too; it puts the USB-C port to sleep, eventhough the charger is pluged in the power socket in the wall.
Here is the permanent fix:
- go to Control Panel > Device Manager, scroll down to the last items called USB something...;
- there you have USB 3 ports and hubs; double click each one, or only the ones related to USB-C, and open Properties;
- go to Power Management tab and uncheck the first option "Let Windows stop this... bla bla".
Problem solved!
I unchecked that option for all USB items, because I have other devices plugged in all ports, and I don't want Windows to stop them "to save power". It's the most annoying thing.

GrandmasterLOL - Thanks for the insight as to what is going on. Your message was "just in time" as the unresponsive dock issue appeared again yesterday. After doing the "long power off" and rebooting the laptop, I modified the system settings as you advised (disable power off on USB to save battery). We'll see how it goes. Only time will tell if that resolves the issue - hope that is it!

GrandmasterLOL, not sure why I didn't see this response when you posted it but thanks. I have another user now having intermittent issues with her HP USB-c dock. Again, most of the time works fine but other times, nothing. I'll keep this one on the back burner and the next time I'm down there, I'll give this a shot. And yes, SUPER frustrating for me AND the customer!

It's the only permanent fix. Since I posted it, I never had that issue again. My laptops are plugged in 24/7, they are for business use (POS like); I also have many peripherals plugged in USB ports that have to stay on and never go to stand-by ("to save power" bs), through USB hubs.
I unchecked all "Let windows stop this device..." for all USB things listed in Device Manager and for USB peripherals, Smart Cards, USB addapters, etc.
I also disabled power link state in Power management, in Control Panel, and all things that stop devices in there, like HDD stand-by, etc.
The only thing that goes to stand-by is the monitor.
