Hi everyone, we have this old HP ProBook 4720s i3 series and planning to upgrade to i5 3210m TDP 35w

as i've seen from the old post here are the supported processors :

 

i5-430M, 2.26-GHz, 3-MB cache 597624-001
i5-450M, 2.40-GHz, 3-MB cache 613585-001
i5-460M, 2.53-GHz, 3-MB cache 626039-001
i5-520M, 2.4-GHz, 3-MB cache 594187-001
i5-540M, 2.53-GHz, 3-MB cache 594188-001
i7-620M, 2.26-GHz, 4-MB cache 587259-001

 the max TDP should not exceed 35W

 

is there a chance it will work? suggestions or comments are welcome.

Hi,

It is not going to work.

The CPU socket in the notebook is the G1 socket. The i5 3210m needs the G2 socket.

The chipset in the notebook is not compatible with the newer CPU.

Hi,

It is not going to work.

The CPU socket in the notebook is the G1 socket. The i5 3210m needs the G2 socket.

The chipset in the notebook is not compatible with the newer CPU.
