All M.2 sockets in any HP notebook or desktop PC's I have come across all have one key.

 

The one notch in the SATA SSD will go where that key in the socket is and the other notch does not make contact with the pins on the other side of the socket, but it fits and works just fine.

 

It is very confusing because when people open up the notebook and see the one key in the M.2 slot, they assume it will support a NVMe SSD, which only has one notch.

 

That is why you need to read the service manual to see exactly what type of M.2 SSD is supported.

Hi:

 

The socket size is measured in millimeters.

 

The M.2 SSD would be 22 mm wide and 80 mm long.

 

Your notebook supports a M.2 2280 SATA SSD.

 

Please see chapter 1 page 2 of the service manual.
