Probook 4510s
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello,

Following an existing thread, I tried to upgrade the CPU on my Probook 4510s.

So I ordered a Core 2 Duo T9600 and replaced the existing Celeron T3000.

Then when powering on, it powers off after a few seconds.

I put the T3000 back and it works again.

I thought it could be the FSB speed that is different from the PC2-6400 RAM modules, but I saw that Acati replaced a T6570 by a T9400 and said it works: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Probook-4510S-Cpu-upgrade/m...

I also upgraded the BIOS.

Any idea?

Hi:

It depends on what chipset your notebook has.

If it has the Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset or Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset, you can run processors with a 1066 MHz FSB.

If it has the Mobile Intel GL40 Express Chipset, it can only run processors with a max FSB of 800 MHz.

Use the free utility that I zipped up and attached below to see what chipset your notebook has.

I would say if the T9600 didn't work in your notebook, then it has the Mobile Intel GL40 chipset.

I think all of the 4510s' that came with the Intel Celeron processors came with the Mobile Intel GL40 Express Chipset.

Hi Paul,

You are right. My chipset is a GL40.

Th good news is that the CPU was not so expensive.

Thank you for your help!

You're very welcome.

Try the T9500 in there and see if that works, or go with the T6570 listed in that HP Quickspecs link I posted in that other discussion.

Here is a comparison of the two processors.   One of those is probably not very expensive either.

Well, the T9500 is too expensive and for the T6570, I don't think a new complete teardown is worth it.

I think it will stay with its bad Celeron.

Thank you anyway.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.
