Hi:

You should be fine with the i7-640M.

Plug and play.

Suggestion...get rid of that 2 GB memory module and replace it with a 4 GB chip.

You are crippling the memory efficiency by it running in single data rate (SDR) mode.

2 x 4 GB will not only add 2 GB to the memory total, but more importantly, the memory will run in more efficient dual data rate (DDR) mode.

Wow that was fast. noted paul . yup im actually going to upgrade it to 8 gb ram. if only 12 or 16 gb ram can be supported i will do it .

Good move.

Memory in excess of 2 x 4 GB is not supported on platforms with the 1st generation dual core processors.

a follow up question can i use a pc3-12800 1600 mhz? , and the other one is running on 1333mhz

HP Recommended

Hi,

No, you have to use PC3-10600 1.5V memory.

PC3-12800 memory won't downclock to 1066 MHz,which is the speed the memory runs at.
