I have an HP Probook 6470b that I want to upgrade the CPU on. I've done this before in other laptops, so I'm familiar with how to do it.
The main question I have, is what is the fastest CPU that the board will take? I've seen conflicting information in the 6470b service manuals, as well as anecdotal reports of people running quad-core CPUs in this particular laptop.
I'd like to stay at a 35W CPU since I don't want to overheat the system.
I've found out that my board has an HM76 chipset in it.
The only two quad-core CPUs I see that fit these all specs that might work are the i7-3632QM and i7-3612QM (which are both 35W CPUs, same socket, Ivy Bridge, etc).
Does anyone know if upgrading to one of these two chips is possible for this laptop / board / chipset? I'm currently running an i5-3320M, but an upgrade to a quad-core would be a significant update.
Thanks much.

Your machine uses Intel processor. Please use the list of Intel processors on page 115 of the following Guide
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03564727.pdf
The manual also shows you how to replace CPU/Processor.
Regards.

Here is another version of the HP service manual: http://content.etilize.com/User-Manual/1024109619.pdf
As I said, conflicting information. This manual says several 45W quad-core CPUs work with this laptop.
Does anybody have direct experience putting in quad-core 35W or 45W processors in this laptop without errors or issues?
