Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have a programmable key on F12 but it does absolutely nothing when pressed, the physical key does work because when I press fn+F12 it sends F12 but the programmable does nothing. I installed the HP Programmable Key app from the Microsoft Store but that did not install any drivers or services and when I try to map any function to the key it just tells me that the hotkey service is not running. There are no available drivers on the support page for the programmable key and nothing is found from the HP Support Assistant when searching for drivers. This is a clean install of Windows because HP does not provide Windows images for this model because it was not manufactured to be shipped with Windows. Help is appreciated.

Hi @Ivo15

This program is compatible only with business line laptops that have two trinagle keys on the F12 key, it cannot be used on any HP laptop.

Hi, I have that same key. And it is mentioned in product pages that it IS programmable. It is literally mentioned as an HP Programmable Key... And yet, just because it's a consumer line, it's not supposed to work? The key that HP literally manufactured on this consumer laptop.. and advertised. Could this be escalated to HP?

you can contact HP, but I don't understand how you have that key, you need not only that program but also other programs for the keyboard.

Hi, I'm well aware that I need special programs for this key to work because I do use business line laptops which DO feature the same exact key and they do require special software for it to work. Unfortunately I am unable to install that software on my laptop. I also am unable to contact HP because they do not have any support services in my country and I can only go through a retailer who also instruct me to contact HP and the only option to contact HP myself is this forum. You can see the key featured in the laptop's user guide at User Guide but it's labelled as some sort of hubs launcher key, but in the printed version I received with my purchase it was mentioned as a programmable key. This hub launcher functionality does not work either.

I had another topic opened regarding this keyboard and an HP employee just recommended to me to file a warranty dispute (because my product is still under warranty) but realistically I'll be unable to achieve anything this way because warranty covers hardware failure, not software, especially not for software it was not shipped with, and I'll just be left with no laptop for an unknown amount of time.

I cannot give an opinion about the notebook keyboard, I am only indicating that this program is not compatible with the laptop, it is for use with the laptop business line, nothing I know of will work on your laptop so it is time to make use of the warranty.
