Common problems for Battery

I bought an HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen (L93571-B23) to use with my HP Envy x360 2 in 1 Laptop 14 -es0xxx.  The pen tip works with the touch screen, but the buttons on the pen do not function.  When I touch the tip to HP Pen Control Plus App circle, it says Incompatible stylus detected.

I've read some posts about possible driver updates, but nothing is clear and I'm not sure what driver to update.

Looking for an HP expert to confirm if these two hardware products are compatible and just need software/driver updates, or if these two HP products are indeed not compatible with each other no matter the software or driver status.

It's an HP 14 -es0xxx.  I have an update that I'll post to the main topic.

Update - Seems I didn't fully understand how the buttons would function and it turns out they do function.  When I use the pen, the Windows Pen Menu comes up and I can edit pen settings, however it assume there is only one side button and not the two that the pen has.  I can use the HP Pen Control Plus app to adjust the function of both buttons even though it says it is an incompatible stylus though.  I think the only function that doesn't work on the HP Control Plus app is reading the battery level.  Not that big of a deal though.  Still curious why it says it is incompatible.
