I use a HP Spectre x360 with the HP Recharcheable 2.0 MPP Tilt Pen. I've had the issue several times, that it draws on my screen even before I touch it, which makes it practically impossible to draw and write while staying sane. Often it just goes away after I screw around with the pen and take the tip out and then replace it, but sometimes it also takes way longer, slowing down my work immensely.
If possible, I would like to keep using this pen, because I really like it apart from that.
Does anyone have any similar experiences or even solutions?
Thank you in advance!

Hi @SerdFard,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it must be to have your HP Tilt Pen drawing before it even makes contact with the screen, especially when you're trying to work smoothly. Let's work together to troubleshoot this so you can get back to drawing and writing seamlessly.
A few questions to help pinpoint the issue:
- Have you noticed if this issue occurs consistently after a certain action, such as waking the laptop from sleep or charging the pen?
- Does adjusting the pen sensitivity or pressure settings in your drawing software make any difference?
- Have you recently updated any drivers, firmware, or drawing applications?
Meanwhile, let's try these steps.
Update the Pen and Touchscreen Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices > Right-click on the pen driver and touchscreen driver, then select Update driver.
- Check if there’s an update for the HP Tilt Pen firmware through the HP Support Assistant or on the HP website.
Recalibrate the Touchscreen:
- Search for Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input in the Windows search bar.
- Follow the instructions to recalibrate the touch screen, as this may help reduce pen input sensitivity.
Adjust Pen Sensitivity Settings:
- In Windows Ink Workspace or your drawing app settings, reduce pen sensitivity and adjust the “pressure” settings. This can sometimes lessen early contact sensitivity.
Reset the Pen’s Tip:
- If removing and replacing the pen tip has helped before, try it again, but this time inspect the tip for any wear or dirt. A worn or dirty tip can cause inconsistent contact.
Perform a Power Reset on the Laptop:
- Shut down the laptop completely, disconnect any peripherals, and hold the power button down for about 15 seconds.
- After a minute, restart the laptop and reconnect the pen to see if the issue persists.
If the problem continues, we may need to explore further adjustments or consider replacement options if the pen's sensitivity still behaves inconsistently. Let me know if these steps help!
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
