Hi @Melanie_Anne

Thanks for the info — this is a common issue when buying HP Renew or refurbished laptops through third-party sellers.

Let me explain what’s going on and what you can do about it.

Why HP Shows “No Warranty” on a Renew Laptop

Even if the eBay seller claims it has a 3-year HP warranty, HP’s official site may show “Warranty expired” or “No warranty” for one of the following reasons:

1. It’s Registered to Another Owner

If the laptop was previously sold, returned, or used internally by HP or another company, HP still sees it as "owned" by the original buyer.

HP warranty is tied to original purchase date and registered owner, not the resale.

2. Refurbished or Renew Models May Require Manual Warranty Validation

HP Renew and refurbished units don’t automatically update the warranty when sold through third parties.

You typically need to submit proof of purchase to HP to correct the warranty date.

3. The eBay Seller Provided Their Own Warranty

Some sellers falsely advertise “3-year HP warranty” when it’s actually their own store warranty or a third-party warranty plan (like Allstate, SquareTrade, etc.)
