HP Envy x360 y-0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi HP Support,

I have recently purchased an HP Envy x360 y-0xx notebook and have been using the charger from the box for about a month now. I keep on getting this error message that says "Please connect to a higher capacity smart ac adapter for better performance." This message pops up right as I start up and login to my computer.

I have tried to reset my computer, checked the hp supprot assistant for any updates and looked at other hp forums to see what the issue could be. It seems like there are different resolutions according to which computer the person purchased (not sure if this is an accurate statement, I just noticed that each resolution was for a different model of laptop). Please let me know how I can fix this.

Thanks,

Sarah

A multimeter cost is relatively low and may be useful for other things also!

Honestly I don't know, and I hate guessing.
If you hate the popup just remove the HP application.

What are the specifications of your actual AC adapter? You'll find everything in the back of it.

I wasn't sure what information you needed but this is all I found on my charger:

  • Model: TPN-CA04
  • Input: 100-240V, 1.4A, 50-60Hz
  • Output: 19,5V, 2,13A, 45W
  • MFR. NAME: CHICONY POWER
  • A/S Number: 1588-3003

I need the complete serial number of your laptop (not only y-0xx).

You'll find it over the bottom case.

Here is my serial number: 5CD7210NW5

As per manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05310058) this laptop is sold only with a 45W AC adapter.

To find out if your AC adapter output the correct Voltage you can use a multimeter.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to a multimeter. If I don't replace the charger will anything terrible happen? This just recently started occuring and was fine all the other times I have charged. Is there a reason for this?
