HP Smart request for hard drive access

I'm just trying to understand about the HP Smart pop up I am getting requesting permission to make changes to my hard drive. I want to make sure this is legitimate before I allow it. I'm leery of scammers trying to plant a virus. So, please tell me why HP Smart is asking to access my hard drive. Does HP send such requests? What is the purpose? Is it safe for me to allow it? Thank you.

HP Smart is installed by the Windows / Microsoft Store.

Once installed, updates to the app generally come through the store.

Yes, your onboard security might catch the potential update and ask you to confirm.

You can also / instead open the  Microsoft Store

Click on the Libraries icon (left column, bottom)

Check to Updates / Get Updates / or list and then Update
