I love my laptop but it is now out of warranty and the battery is now seriously (dangerously)  overheating and no longer holds charge.

Any tips?

Hi @GLOW2015,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

While dealing with battery issues, especially overheating, it’s crucial to ensure your safety and the longevity of your device. Here are some steps you can take:

Enable Battery Health Manager:

  • For future use, consider using the Battery Health Manager feature available in the BIOS on select HP laptops to maximize battery health and prevent overheating. This feature can be accessed by repeatedly pressing the F10 key during startup to enter the BIOS Setup Utility, navigating to the Advanced > Power Management Options.

Use Power Management Settings:

  • Ensure that power management settings are optimized to prevent overheating, which may include reducing screen brightness, closing unnecessary applications, and disconnecting peripherals when not in use.

Keep the Laptop Cool:

  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the laptop by using it on hard surfaces rather than soft ones, and keep it clean from dust.

Update Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure your system’s BIOS and drivers are updated, as updates can help manage power and performance issues. Official HP® Support

Monitor Battery Health:

  • Regularly monitor the battery health using tools like HP Support Assistant, which can help assess the current state and functionality of the battery.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
