I have an HP Spectre with the dreaded battery bulge - it started a year ago and i thought i bent the machine in my bag but upon inspection, this is the battery bulging both top and bottom.
The case does not close properly, the track pad is displaced, the unit no longer sits flat the units overheats and i get the smell of burning electronics.
I ran the battery recall checker and this unit does not qualify - which i find a little suspicious given the numerous reports here. I am not using the system due to safety at this point - i dont want to burn down my house.
What are the options here?
It seems like there is a class action suit forming in CA but this isnt my style of resolving customer service issues - Has anyone else had luck here? I am a loyal HP customer - I even bought a new Spectre as I deal with this issue.
Its a wonderful, beautiful machine but i am now worried about safety.

The solution is to change out / replace the battery.
True - a bloated battery, when left in the computer, can distort the case and might even damage other components.

"Fat" Battery / Bloated Battery / Swollen Battery – Sealed / Internal Battery
- Swollen battery might be hiding OR there might be evidence that the battery has inflated. For example, notebook case is warped, touchpad stops working, “odd” bulging near the keyboard.
- If the battery is in a swollen or bloated condition, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced. There are no other remedies, tests, or useful options.
