My Spectre Laptop will work with power brick attached, however, the battery will not recharge. There is a thread on this forum that provided a work around. This work around involves disconnecting the power brick from the computer and holding the laptop power button for 60 seconds. After that release the power button and plug in the power brick. Doing this causes the battery to recharge
This workaround is not ideal since I have many programs open and usually like to put the laptop to sleep.
So, is there any new solutions for what seems like a long running battery recharge problem. If not, is it time to buy a DELL?

@yyzSB It seems like the battery is not holding charge or is malfunctioning, here's what I recommend we do:
I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:
Unplug the charge, Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:
1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.
2) Expand “Batteries”.
3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
4) Click on “Uninstall”.
5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
6) Shutdown the computer.
7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in. (Skip this step if you have a non removable battery)
8 - When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
9) Go to Device Manager.
10) Expand Batteries.
11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.
If the issue persists, run a battery and adapter test using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here

Thanks for the post.
I had tried the steps outlined in the post above a few weeks ago and it did not solve the problem. I just finished trying this again and the results are the same. The battery does not increase the charge once plugged back in.
The only way I have gotten the battery to update the charge once this issue arises is to unplug the power and hold down the power for 60 seconds. The reboot results in the battery increasing the charge once plugged in. Now if I only needed to do this once I am fine with that workaround. However, I have my business programs running on the laptop and it is usually not convenient to reboot. The late response to the above post was because I had to wait a while before I had the opportunity to reboot.
So this does not look good for this battery and laptop. If anyone else has tried any other approaches I am all ears.

@yyzSB If the hard reset is the only way to resolve the issue, I recommend upgrading the BIOS using the steps mentioned here, and if that doesn't help either, run a calibration of the battery and a test using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here and let me know how that pans out.

I checked the BIOS and I have the latest from Dec 24, 2019 F.41. I ran the battery check and it reported that the battery was good.
I still have the battery not charging issue when plugged in.

@yyzSB If all hardware tests have passed, I suggest you create a new user account and check if that helps: click here to find how its done

For anyone who comes to this thread in the future.
After running the diagnostics test described above the same battery recharge failure existed. However, I tried the brute force method described in Post #1 of holding the power button down for 60 seconds. This time after the reboot the battery charged up to 100%. Normally the battery would charge up to about 80% and not completely. Maybe those battery diagnostics that were posted above cleared some cobwebs in the battery recharge system. Whatever, the case the brute force reboot will be the way I will have to deal with this unless I dump this laptop, Spectre 360 for something more reliable.
@Riddle_Deciper, not sure why creating a new user account would help unless the pwer profile is tied to each user account. My laptop is configured with too many tools and programs associated with my current accout so creating a new account is a no go. It would be the same as buying a new laptop.
I will mark this thread as RESOLVED. Though not really.
Thanks for your help.

@yyzSB I understand your concern, and the suggestion to create a new user account is merely to check what the issue is, it's not going to be a permanent solution, in order to dissect the issue and know what's causing the failure, we may need to perform these steps, also, much like science, most of the solution depend on trail and error, some work and some don't, if you wish to troubleshoot further, please perform the suggested steps and get back to us with the results.
Good luck!

I will add a last update to this thread. My laptop eventually stopped charging all together. No software reset of test would get it charging as before.
I re-did the HP diagnostics that are available from HP and this time it reported that the battery was bad and I needed to take the computer to a repair shop. I also noticed the the track pad was elevated from it's normal position. It turned out that the battery was expanding and faulty. I replaced it and things seem to be recharging as when the machine was new.

@yyzSB I'm glad the replacement of the battery did the trick, and everything is working fine now,
that said, if you need anything else, feel free to write to us, any time.
