Model # 13-ae015dx
Twice today I've gotten an error at bootup warning me the fan may be not working causing the laptop to overheat. I've looked up troubleshooting tips. 1. blow dust out, 2. Activate HP Coolsense (my Spectre doesn't have it and it cannot be downloaded to it) So is it a dust issue or just bad design? I could not believe that I just realized the only vent is on the bottom! I bought my laptop to use exclusively on the sofa or while in bed, so it stays on my lap. No wonder it gets so hot. Why is there not one on the side? Has anyone else experienced this and was it a dust issue or design issue? What was the eventual resolution? Of course, my laptop just passed 1 year old at 13 months.

It could be a dust issue if you have never blown it out, but evidently the fan is not spinning fast enough for some reason. If cleaning it with compressed air doesn't resolve it you should see about getting the fan replaced soon. Not sure why that particular model doesn't have a vent on side but even with the tiny side vent on the Spectre I am using I never use it on soft surface and block the bottom vent. On the occasions I use it off the desk I keep a thick magazine or something under it to allow some airflow.
