HP Spectre X2 detachable bulging lower middle left side

Haven't used the little laptop in a couple months.  Pulled it out and found the keyboard would no longer lay flat.  At first I thought it had somehow got bent but then I realized it's bulging out from the lower middle, left-hand side.  It's popped the glass off the front which was replaced over a year ago when my younger brother broke it.  Battery going bad?  Any help would be most appreciated, not sure if another $500 repair (what I paid to replace the cracked glass before) would be worth it considering the age and value of the laptop today.

I should have said other than the gap where the screen has detached from the edges (both left and right side, left more so than right, at the lower middle area), the laptop still works perfectly.  Worried about crud getting behind the glass and cluttering the image.
