HP Spectre X2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've searched the threads here and other places and it appears HP has left Spectre X2 owners high and dry.

In my case, I updated BIOS some time ago in routine maintenance. I found myself with the same problems many are reporting here:

1. PC appears to power down, but remains in some powered state, clearly indicated by power remaining on last active kb lights (e.g., orange LED mute F6) or via toggling kb backlight (F5)

2. PC can only be powered down by long press of power button to force power off

3. Any further attempts to update BIOS fails. Will make it to the reboot bios update screen, but yield the red text failure message. BIOS update with HP Assistant and also using B method at boot via USB also fails. In my case, I'm stuck on F.28, others are reporting getting stuck on F.25 (ie, may not have been BIOS update causing issue, but the intel IMEI update as some reported

I limped along using the forced power down for most of this year, but then the last windows update I applied (requiring restart) got toasted, forcing me to do recovery. Not exactly what I'd call a functional device.

Please post below if you are having this issue (or even have a fix). This sounds so widespread that HP has every incentive to wait out warranty periods instead of coming clean on this one (kicking myself for using the workaround instead of opening a claim when I had coverage).
