Hi all,
I have a Spectre x360 (13-ae0xx) and I've noticed since upgrading windows to 1903 my laptop has essentially become an overpriced paperweight. I handed it over to the computer store to fix (successfully). Windows has now upgrade to 2004 and my issues have come back.
Symptoms are:
- Keyboard and tracking pad work within BIOS (Upgraded to version F.33)
- I'm able to launch BIOS screens, keyboard and trackpad both work without issues
- As soon as Windows loads then the tracking pad immediately stops working altogether
- On Windows 2004, I've noticed that a very limited number of buttons on the keyboard work - i.e the screen brightness adjustment buttons (F2/F3) and airplane mode
- external keyboard (USB) and mouse (bluetooth) continue to work
Things I've tried:
- Uninstall keyboard/trackpad via device manager and reset to reinstall (fail)
- Upgrade keyboard/trackpad - already on latest version
- Hard reset (disconnect power - hold on button for 15 seconds)
- HP Support Assistant indicates no updates needed for my notebook
- I've tried fresh install of windows (wiping everything out) - I don't have a restore point to go back to.
I'm hoping to be able to get to the bottom of this issue once and for all - my laptop is great when it works but, since its purchase, I've spent more time trying to fix it than using it and am quite disappointed at such a price point. My wife also has a HP Spectre x360 (13-ap0132tu) and I am far too scared to update anything on it fearing that her laptop will end up with the same issues that mine has.

Windows 10 v20.04 has proven to be a problem for LOTS of folks, so much so, that last time I checked, MS was not FORCING the upgrade on anyone; instead, they were only OFFERING it. You had to accept the offer and start the upgrade yourself.
What you should try to do, if it's still available, is rollback the upgrade. Windows Update will allow you do do this rollback after an Upgrade for a limited period of time.
Then, when the PC is back working properly, do NOT accept the Upgrade offer a second time.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

Thank you @WAWood.
It seems my rollback has expired. I’m also kicking myself as I haven’t created a restore point.
I’ve managed to find and carry out a clean install of v1903 (clearing the disk and creating new partition). Still no success unfortunately.
