Greetings. The bottom of my laptop is bulging, significantly. It will no longer sit properly on a level surface. I've been doing some research, and it appears this may be the result of a swollen battery, but I'm looking for a professional diagnosis and repair.
The device is out of warranty.
What is the best way to have this issue properly diagnosed and addressed?

Discussion / Original Content
Batteries of this same type are used in many computers (all brands) and in phones or other smaller devices.
Sometimes the battery just lives until it dies, other times the battery becomes bloated / distended out of its normal shape.
Assuming the battery is the cause of the issue,
Open the computer and look at it.
Bloat is pretty easy to see.
Still assuming this is the root of the problem,
The battery must be removed because
1) the fat battery will fail
and
2) removing the battery is necessary to prevent even more damage to the computer.
In almost every case, you can run the computer with the battery removed.
That said, and because "something" might get in the way of a clean replacement,
Back up your important personal data somewhere other than on the computer so you can access it if necessary.
With a modicum of preparedness, it is certainly possible to replace the battery at home (or office).
