I have the below laptop HP Spectre x360. This laptop has always been incredibly glitchy and the fan is always overworking. Has there been any fixes over the years? Or perhaps a refund/credit for providing a faulty laptop? Thanks!

@Shane238, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve or significantly improve the situation:

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated firmware and drivers can cause instability and overheating.

  • Update BIOS: Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page → Enter your product name (e.g., HP Spectre x360) → Download and install the latest BIOS.
  • Update Intel Chipset and Graphics Drivers: Use HP Support Assistant to automatically detect and install updates.

Clean the Air Vents and Fan

Dust buildup can cause the fan to overwork.

  • Use compressed air to blow out dust from the vents.
  • If you're comfortable, open the back panel and gently clean the fan using a soft brush or compressed air. HP Cleaning Guide

Adjust Power Settings

High-performance settings can keep the CPU running hot even when idle.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select HP Recommended or Balanced.
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Under Processor power management, set Maximum processor state to 80–90%.

Check for Background Processes

Too many background apps can cause CPU spikes.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary apps.
  • Monitor the Processes tab for any app using high CPU or memory.

Run HP Diagnostics

Check for hardware issues using HP’s built-in diagnostics.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Run the System Tests > Extensive Test.

Consider a Clean Windows Install

If glitches persist, a clean reinstall of Windows 11 can help eliminate software conflicts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
