Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I have a HP Spectre x360 laptop that I purchased in 2019 that is out of its warranty coverage. Before an year, one of the USB C ports was loose and was charging the laptop only when the charging cable was oriented in a specific angle. Now, both the USB C ports have the same problem and even worse they stopped charging the laptop at all. I also suspect there's a battery issue with the laptop. I have contacted the authorized service center and they asked me to contact HP since this issue involves replacement of motherboard. By contacting HP I found that I would have to pay half of the laptop's initial cost to repair it. I am seeing this is a recurring problem with the old HP Spectre laptops. Has anyone had any luck in resolving this in any other way and not having to pay so much for a design flaw that HP carries.

Thanks!

Hi @keerthivasans13,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Spectre's charging ports are loose and it charges intermittently, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue.

  • Check the charging cable: Make sure that the charging cable is not damaged, and the charging port is clean. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any debris that might be blocking the port.
  • Try a different charging cable: If the first cable is not working, try using a different charging cable. Sometimes, a faulty cable can cause charging issues.
  • Check the power source: Ensure that the power outlet or USB port you're using to charge your HP Spectre is functioning correctly. Try charging your device from a different outlet or USB port.
  • Reset the laptop: Sometimes, a reset can fix the issue. Disconnect the charger, turn off your laptop, and remove the battery. Wait for a few minutes, reinsert the battery, turn on the laptop, and try to charge it again.
  • Update the BIOS: Check for any available BIOS updates for your HP Spectre model and update it to the latest version.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,

None of the given solutions works, I also reset my PC and the problem appears to be in the mother board. I am out of the warranty period, so calling HP and requesting a repair is costing me $550 which is nearly half the price I paid for the laptop. I am frustrated with HP for not resolving this recurring problem in many Spectre laptops. It's clearly a design flaw and HP has lost my trust.
