HP Spectre 15-eb0000 x360 Convertible Laptop PC RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

HP Spectre 360 Convertible Laptop with warping, bulging case now separating. Any news on this? The case is now separated.

HP Spectre warping, bulging, case now separating. Any news on this? The case is now separated about 1/4" from the middle to about 1 inch in on either side. It is obvious that it being caused by a swelling battery after reviewing the internal diagram of the PC from my manual.  I am concerned that the overall integrity of the laptop is compromised. What has HP done about this? Has there been a recall? What do they feel is the latent defect in design or manufacture? I have had this computer for about two years and have never run it on its battery,it has always been plugged in.   This is obviously a manufacturer or engineering design defect.   My 12 year old backup laptop is still running with its original battery and I have never had any issue like this . Do we all pause when looking at a new laptop and not look at returning to HP?   If I was HP management I would be concerned about this obvious defect and hope they will stand behind it and contact me to either repair or replace it my at no cost to me.  I love this computer and if it wasn't for this, I would surely buy another one if they stand up and take care of this for me. I have noticed from all the other posts that I have reviewed that this has been an ongoing problem with this model. Has anyone else got proper satisfaction from HP and not just a runaround? Has anyone reported this to the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission?  Because if no one has I will do so on everyone's behalf If I do not hear from an HP representative and get satisfaction. Because it is obviously a widespread situation and dangerous.

Did you notice it when  the case started separating?

This happens industry wide across all laptop manufacturer brands and the responsible part is the lithium Ion battery.

Your only solution for that laptop is to immediately  stop using it and replace the battery with a new one before it becomes worse.

If you need the battery part number just let me know.

Your expectation of HP to repair your out of warranty laptop is a bit of a stretch.

From what I have seen while researching this is that your laptop is from the 2020 market year.

Hi Erico, Thank you for your reply and assistance on this matter. To answer your question, yes... I noticed the front lower base of my laptop changing shape with the center bulging and the gold metal frame bending about a month ago. From the information you sent me, it advised to put my PC into "battery safety mode" so I can continue to use my PC until I can get this resolved.  I have tried to figure out how to do that with all the HP tools put on my pc and I have not found a way to activate it unless it is done automatically by the system bios (My latest version: AMI F.14 4/6/22). My battery shows that it is "normal" when I did a battery check in the HP Support Assistant app, so I am assuming it has not been activated since no issue has been detected by the system.  Is this something easy to do or not really?

And yes, please provide me with the correct part number for a replacement battery that is hopefully not the same one and is in an improved version that will still fit in my laptop.  Do you know if there has been a recall on the battery that was shipped with my laptop? I am assuming from what you told me, unless there has been a recall, replacement would be at my expense?  I am hoping after repair that my laptop will not remain deformed.  It is very upsetting to me that after only two years of use and this being a high-end computer that this could happen, and I just have to live with it and HP won't stand behind the design defect of these batteries.  I know you stated that this is an industry wide problem but why have I never had this issue with any other laptop that I have owned prior to this model.

One last question, I thought I would remove the bottom of the laptop or at least remove the screws so the PC will have room to expand to limit further damage until I can get a replacement battery. I need to continue to use my computer until I can get the replacement parts.  Do you know if the PC will continue to function if I remove the battery as well and just run on AC power?

Thank you again Erico for your assistance on this issue I really, really appreciate it!

Update: Across the laptop manufacturing industry wide there is a one year warranty for the battery unless an HP Care pack was purchased that covered everything including dropping a laptop.

There is no such thing as a  "battery safety mode".

If you like your laptop and do not want it to destroy itself, stop using it until the battery is repaired.

Update:

"Do you know if the PC will continue to function if I remove the battery as well and just run on AC power? That may work.

It is highly recommended to use the genuine or original HP battery.
