HP Spectre x360 13-ap0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi peeps, i need some help with the above. I've had the x360 Gem cut 2019 (13-ap0xxx) model for several months and even though the temps have always been high on this laptop, its getting worse, far worse. I am fully aware this is a common problem with this model however, my temperatures are hitting as high as 99c at times and core temp software is warning me its too hot. I have provided screenshots of core temp. Whats worse is the laptop is not even CPU intensive sometimes when this happens, the cpu is barely over 50% utilisation. I've also noticed sometimes 1 of the 4 cores will shoot up to 90+ whilst the others remain much lower, its weird.

I've followed all the advice on these forums, changing the HP command centre profiles, but the temps are end up hitting 90+ and i am finding the fans do not come on for ages, until the cpu is in the high 90's before the fans turn on, on full power, super loud, it shouldn't be this loud surely....Above the keboard where the fans are, after a while is getting super hot and i've also noticed a quiet sound coming from that area, its like a leakage sound, you know when a capacitor on a circuit board has that electrical leakage sound, it sounds exactly like that, if that makes any sense.

The laptop has all the latest drivers and bios firmware.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

use the following steps:

  • Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.

For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.

  • After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
  • Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.

For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.

  • In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring. For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo Lake,

i tried everything you suggested, unfortunately nothing worked. If i put the laptop on performance profile in HP command centre, the fans are on full, loud and the temps are high, like 98c, 99c on all cores. If i change it to HP recommended setting, it sometimes still hits high 90's with the fans blowing loud. Silent mode seems to be better but at a cost of performance, which is not right.

I also have a couple of other minor faults, the backlight keyboard uniformaty is bad, as in a couple of keys are super bright the rest are dim, any how to fix that?

cheers
