HP Spectre x360 - 13-w023dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Wow, this was an excellent design wise and perf wise. I have got it like 4 years back and it used to do really great back then, but due to some work over load, I hardly use this machine(personal) it in the past year(once or twice for a few hours in a month), but now I'm having these issues

1. The machine heats up for no reason(literally just was on photos app with less than 100 pics in the folder) this is a 16G machine with  I7, i was on the task manager literally and I'm hardly using 30% of CPU and 20% Mem, sometime it gets really loud which scares me that it would blow up. I had this issue and it seems to be coming back very badly with more heat and fan sound now.
2. Recently i found that my left shift control fn alt keys arent working and when i went to diagnostics they look functional and soon after the test is done they dont work any more I tried updating removing reinstalling drivers and all seem to come back with no issue found but still cant use them after the tests, even my ease of access keyboard settings are standard(didnt change them).

Can someone please help me get around these two?

Thanks
Raj

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
Firstly, perform Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists...

The last thing I can suggest trying to restore the computer back to the factory settings. Performing an HP system recovery (Windows ) While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Echo_Lake, thanks for the response and below are my responses:

  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue? No
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update? Might be(coz I always have auto-updates turned on and install when I reboot next time)
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes? No

Hard Reset & Restore the computer back to the factory settings -- Done
what's weird is when I run keyboard test from  HP Hardware Diagnostics Windows it shows that my keys are fine.

Still no luck, so I'm assuming the only option I have is to replace the keyboard, Im checking some online options and with the case it looks like really expensive, do you know if I have to get this through the HP support how much would it be?

Thanks
Raj
