Bought the HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 LT laptop in March 2025, and after 1 year (warranty expired 3.months ago the laptop won't start up with battery. The laptop boots up only when charged, when I take out the charger it shuts off after few minutes, the battery shows 100% and shuts down around 94% within 2 or three minutes. Ran battery test, diagnostics as recommended by the HP Assistant nothing is standing out. Calibrated once but still facing same issue. Previously I owned a HP laptop which last me for a decade. I am only a moderate user of laptop. Any one face similar issue, how to resolve it?

@Nohulk, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Based on your description, it seems your HP Spectre x360 laptop has a problem with its battery or power management. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

Check Battery Connections: Ensure that the battery is correctly connected within the laptop. If comfortable, you may open the back panel and verify the physical connection of the battery.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds to clear any residual power from the capacitors.

Update Battery Drivers and BIOS:

  • Ensure your device has the latest BIOS version. You can download this from the HP Support website.
  • Update battery management and power-related drivers using the HP Support Assistant.

Run Extensive Battery Diagnostics:

  • If you haven't already, perform an Extensive Test from the HP diagnostics tool. Sometimes an Extensive Test can detect issues not identified in quick tests.

Battery Calibration:

  • You've indicated that you've calibrated the battery once, but it may be worth trying again. Ensure the process is followed carefully:
    • Charge the battery to 100%, and then unplug the charger.
    • Allow the battery to fully discharge until the laptop shuts off.
    • Charge it again to 100% without interruption.

Check HP Support for Battery Replacement:

  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it’s possible that the battery may need to be replaced.

Monitor Performance:

  • Observe if there are any processing tasks that might be causing excessive battery drain which would not be typical e.g. high CPU usage.

Also, i suggest you refer to this guide: HP Notebook PCs - The battery doesn't charge or power the laptop | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
