Hello, I work for a computer repair company known as UTX. We are currently trying to refurbish the laptop listed above for internal use. The laptop works, however will automatically restart after shutting it down. After research, it seems that the most likely cause of the problem is the mainboard. It also seems that the only confirmed way to fix this is for HP to perform a fix in their repair center. One problem: This laptop's warranty expired in 2021. I would like to know what I can do, if anything, to be able to submit a repair request.
Here is a list of everything that has been tried:
Fresh Installation of Windows 11
HP Recovery Installation
BIOS rollback
BIOS update to F.16 Rev. A
Windows Update + Optional drivers
BIOS update through Windows Update to F.18
Manual installation of select chipset drivers, including Intel ME
Disabling Hybrid Shutdown (both in control panel and in the registry)
Setting Winlogon in the registry to enforce power-off state after shutdown
Disabled automatic restarting after system failure
Thorough inspection of mainboard for damage, which yielded no damage found
Successfully recreated the shutdown/restart problem in Windows 10
Successfully recreated the shutdown/restart problem in Ubuntu 23.04
It is possible I have missed some steps that have been taken in the past, as this has been an on/off project for multiple months worked on by multiple people.
