Loved this excellent laptop, but EXTREMELY DISSAPPOINTED with service and support! Paid top dollar ($1300 + $345 3-yr ext warranty) for a high school laptop for my son who took excellent care of it in December 2018. Started noticing distortion of the case by mid 2020. Never thought for a minute this was a battery issue. Realized what was going on and contacted support within 3 months the extended warranty expiring. They refused to help, and they refused to admit the battery was defective. They claim this is not a safety issue, and that battery swelling is "normal."
I cannot accept this. Based on numerous posts on similar models it is clear that there is nothing "normal" about his defect. I have had multiple laptops for work and home (HP, Dell, Lenovo). I left them plugged in most of the time and never had an issue close to this happen and got significantly more life out of the batteries.
It is too bad and a shame because everything else about this laptop is very good. We really liked it!
I would have considered meeting HP halfway since I was late in reporting the issue. If they would replace the battery, I would get it installed. Unfortunately, the HP Service at the time was very unreachable/nonexistent once the machine was out of warranty.
My wife needs a new laptop. I brought this one to service and they estimated $100-$200 for battery replacement and repair as well as diagnostic since the space bar and touch pad have been affected.
My son's college laptop is not HP, and I will be hard pressed to return to the brand if they continue to deny this is an issue and do the right thing for formally loyal customers.
